Parking Enforcement
by Howard Shook, Atlanta City Council

You may wish to alert your neighbors that ParkAtlanta, the company to which municipal parking enforcement was outsourced, has begun patrolling our residential streets in search of vehicles “facing the wrong way.”

As you may recall, three or four years ago, when parking enforcement was provided by the Public Works Department, there was a similar ‘outbreak’ of ticket writing.  After a huge outcry, the enforcement of that particular violation magically stopped.  This time things may well be different.  Their contract, as you would expect, rewards enforcement and the code section requiring vehicles to park in the same direction as the travel lane provides a lot of ‘soft targets’—us.  Because this is a private company it will be immune to political pressure to “spend its time doing more important work.”

It would have been nice for warnings to have been issued the first time around, but evidently that stipulation wasn’t part of the master contract.  The citation is $25.  Your neighbors should be encouraged to get into the habit of making the extra effort required to park “the right way” as the continuation of ‘good hunting’ will ensure more visits from this firm.

I wish I had better news.  Be forewarned!

By Frank Sieper, Dues Chair

Now that 2010 is well underway, it is time once again to start our annual Peachtree Park Dues Drive.   Your contribution will help to ensure that the Peachtree Park community continues to be one of the nicest neighborhoods in the Buckhead area.  Membership dues support services, activities and programs that benefit the entire neighborhood including additional security patrols by off duty APD officers, landscaping projects in common areas and several social events throughout the year (read more...).

Havana Club Continues To Generate Traffic
By Robert J. Stasiowski

Havana Club continues to attract large crowds and overflow parking in surrounding areas on Friday and Saturday nights.  As a result, PPCA has invoked our agreement with the club owner to require the hiring of an off-duty police officer at the Martina Drive entrance to Peachtree Park.  The officer is being asked to keep an eye on any non-residential traffic and specifically to prevent bar patrons from parking in the neighborhood.  The officer on duty will work for the neighborhood, and the owner of the Havana Club will reimburse us, so no PPCA funds are required to pay for the additional security.

Due to these measures, the weekend of February 26th and 27th was calmer along Martina Drive, Park Circle and E. Paces Ferry.  Several dozen cars were turned away from the neighborhood each night.  There was still some overflow parking on Park Circle, and we will continue to monitor this situation and take action as necessary.
Zone 2 police enforcement has also stepped up patrols in the neighborhood and will be looking to write citations for illegally parked cars and cars parked in the opposite direction of traffic flow.  So, be forewarned and park accordingly!".
